Anxiety is one of the two most frequently experienced psychological problems, the other being depression. People experience anxiety when they anticipate irrational beliefs about threats to themselves

Examples of stressors that can trigger anxiety include:

  • pressure of work
  • possible break up of a relationship
  • financial problems
  • life changes such as starting college/university, moving house, getting married.

Some people describe anxiety as 'coming from nowhere; one minute you are more or less happily living your life and the next, terrified and distraught'.
